How it all started

Angie’s Story

My husband Wade and I (Angie) have been married for nearly three decades, and have 5 children. Both of our families have farming/ranching backgrounds, so naturally we started growing gardens, hunting, and raising our own beef to feed the family early in our marriage. I’ve always enjoyed canning, making homemade breads, jams, remedies, etc. As time went on, and we observed more and more unnatural/processed foods becoming the ‘norm’, it motivated my desire to learn as much as I could about healthy alternatives for food preparation, soaps and other cosmetics, and being self-sufficient. In other words, how the original homesteaders did it!

Then I discovered Amanda’s Sunset Highway Farm homesteading program. I signed up for the 2024 - 2025 group and fell in love. She has amazing information and very useful/practical lessons. I learned so much, and had a great time with the other women. The next year my friend Theresa decided to take Amanda’s classes as well, and had the same experience.

With the overwhelming interest in these homesteading classes, Amanda decided to branch out and offer others the opportunity to start their own program/location based on her curriculum. That’s where Theresa and I come in. We are very excited to share this experience and these life lessons with other women that have the same interests. Together we can help our community members bring back the traditional skills that were everyday life for our grandparents’ generation.

Theresa’s Story

I am a Christian homeschool and homesteading mom of four. For over 20 years, I worked in health and fitness, helping people live healthier lifestyles.  I believe the choices we make in our kitchens and homes play an important role in our overall well-being.

Four years ago, my husband, Kelly and I traded city life for a quieter, more remote life on our 60-acre farm overlooking Lake Roosevelt. I dreamed of fresh eggs, a big garden, and meals made from scratch, but I didn’t know where to start. I followed many YouTube channels, but something was still missing—hands-on experience and a community to learn alongside. After following Amanda from Sunset Farms, I finally signed up for a class. I joined the course excited to learn practical, traditional homesteading skills, but gained so much more. The class jump-started my homesteading journey. I made friends, loved the hands-on lessons, and appreciated the follow-up videos. Most of all, I loved being part of a community of like-minded women who shared my desire to create a more holistic home.

After taking the class and loving the experience, my friend Angie and I knew we wanted to become directors when Amanda created the director’s program. As graduates of the class, we were excited about the opportunity to bring that same experience to our local community. We look forward to creating a welcoming space where women can learn practical homesteading skills, connect with like-minded friends, and support one another as we create healthier, more holistic homes.

Are you looking for a fun girls’ night out where you can enjoy a wholesome, home-cooked meal without having to cook it yourself? Would you love to learn how to make nourishing meals, homemade soaps, and natural remedies while discovering simple, time-honored ways to care for your family and home? If so, this class is for you! Come learn, connect, and be inspired as we embrace a more natural, intentional way of living together.

Is this group for you?

You do not need to be an experienced homesteader to join us. Whether you’ve been growing and preserving for decades, or you’ve never grown so much as a tomato and just have the desire to learn — this group is for you.

The application process isn’t about finding the “most homesteady” woman in town (ha!). It’s about finding women who are ready to commit to a full year together, so we can build groups with a good mix of ages, backgrounds, and experience levels — and so real friendships have room to grow.

A few quick answers, if you’re on the fence:

➤ “I don’t have any homesteading experience.” Perfect — most of what we teach is brand new to at least half of every group.

➤ “I’m shy / I don’t know anyone.” Every single member walks in a stranger on night one. The whole point is to build a community. I actually discourage friends from joining the same group because it often prevents them from building friendships with everyone else.

➤ “I don’t have a garden, animals, or land.” No problem, they aren’t required. Everything taught is something you can do in a small kitchen.

➤ “What about dietary restrictions?” Typically our members with restrictions are either to eat most of what we provide OR they bring their own food. Either way, it’s never prevented someone from participating.

➤ “What if I miss a meeting?” You’ll get the take-home materials and goodies at the next meeting, plus full access to the online video lesson for anything you missed
